The Free Clinic is looking for more volunteer nurses! Because our nurses are local professionals, they are eager to give back to the community. Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, nurses work with doctors and other volunteers to provide the highest level of care to our patients. We follow all Vermont Department of Health guidelines for COVID safety.
As a clinic, we offer primary care for patients 18 years or older. Our patients have no medical insurance or other access to affordable medical care. When patients visit the clinic, first we help them determine if they are eligible for insurance. Then they are screened for risky health behaviors and eligibility for Vermont’s You First program. Our providers coordinate healthcare plans that include medical referrals as necessary. Because GBICS recognizes the social determinants of health, our volunteer nurses and doctors do what they can to help our patients meet their physical, social, and emotional needs. We’re proud to say we’ve cared for thousands of patients since 2009!
The Free Clinic is open Thursday evenings from 6 PM to 9 PM and the third Monday of every month from 10 AM to noon. We have two volunteer nurses and one doctor at each session. Occasionally clinic hours may go later than 9 PM. We’re not currently seeing walk-ins.
Scheduling: Volunteer nurses commit to clinic dates as they’re available.
Volunteer Nurse Qualifications:
- Current nursing registration or license to practice in the state of Vermont
- Comfortable working with vulnerable and low-income populations
