The Free Clinic is looking for volunteer nurses and data entry personnel – two vital roles for the continued health of the community!

The Dr. G. Richard Dundas Free Clinic (formerly the Bennington Free Clinic) is a team of family physicians, internists, surgeons, doctors, and nurses that work together to provide basic medical care for the uninsured/underinsured in Bennington County. The Clinic is open every Thursday 6-9pm and the third Monday of each month 10am-noon. The Clinic has seen thousands of patients with mostly donated equipment and volunteer time, but with the need for medical care increasing due to the pandemic, the demand for volunteers has never been higher!

  • Volunteer Data Entry Personnel help upload demographic info to the Free Clinic Database for tracking at the state level, and log clinic volunteer hours. One hour per week/2 hours EOW, schedule flexible! Medical experience not necessary, but familiarity appreciated, and computer knowledge highly preferred!
  • Volunteer Nurses help to greet patients and screen for COVID, take vitals, help patients determine insurance eligibility, and assist doctors during appointments. Nurses must hold valid registration or license to practice in the state of Vermont, and must be comfortable working with vulnerable and low-income populations.

If interested, please reach out to Clinic Nurse Manager Eileen Rice via email at clinicmanager@gbicsbennington.org or by phone at 802-447-3700. Thank you!

Interested in employment at GBCS? You’ve come to the right place! Our staff and volunteers are amazing, strong and giving individuals who are all part of the Bennington area community. The work we do, whether it be finding a bottle of water, clothes, blankets, medical help or a place to stay, is vital. Caring for and helping our neighbors makes us feel good – even small acts of hospitality build trust and spread joy through our community.

At GBCS we seek out those in need and try to find resources for them. We may not have all the answers, but we are here for the community. Even if we don’t offer what our guests need, we point them in the right direction and give them some idea of where to turn when in need. Moreover, we love working here!

“Bottom line, we [come to work] for ourselves because it makes us feel good. We’re helping somebody who otherwise wouldn’t know where to go. It’s just so rewarding to see the things we can do as individuals for people.”

– Cindy, GBCS recently retired Women’s Health Champion
